36. Arby on They're Building A New DNS Mousetrap (But It's Not Better)
There must be a simple solution. Google could run a subset of its tools which when you search on a company name, returns only what looks like a main index page, either because the URL is very simple or it has no subpages in it (such as http://www.mycompany.com and not http://www.mycompany.com/thisisadirectory/thisisapage.html) and filters out things it knows not to be home pages, like ebay results or anything else of that type. There would have to be some intelligence behind it, but they seem to ›››

The UnifiedRoot is an attempt to revive the Public-Root system. I santioned the creation of the Public-Root but on closer investigation I found those operating it to be frauds. The UnifiedRoot is operated by the same people. Details at: http://www.cynikal.net/~baptista/P-R/ ›››

39. john on Google and the Global Traveler
Yeah, It's annoying when I travel and just want to go back to the main site. But at the same time, it's probably easier for the residents of that location to just see the site in their language. I imagine if the Japanese saw an english site as the home page, and not the Japanese one, they would have a hard time even finding the correct link and most likely leave the site. ›››

42. drudixon on Dell vs. Lenovo in China
If you put this article in perspective of recent comments made by the Dell Army Rep, Dell has only market share at expense of customers and competitors. It's surprising that Dell would market at all to the "Communists" and such sentiments by a company bent on assembling the cheapest machines possible should not be rewarded. Just as "Made in the USA" has had such meaning for Americans, Made in China should bring a sense of national pride for the Chinese and buying Dell only rewards Dell for thumb ›››

44. Ian on Of Flags and Languages: A Live 8 Case Study
As an english speaker, I find getting this sort of thing right in my site design terribly different. Personally, after reading this, I think I will use the dropdown approach, with the default being english and a drop down of all other available languages (Of course labelled in that langauge!). I will also move it to the top right hand corner of my page - Nice standard! Cheers, Ian ›››

45. Christian Arno on Lionbridge & Bowne: Waiting For the Other Shoe To Drop
Very exciting news. I'm wondering what the implication will be for medium sized translation companies (from $2-$10million). Are we going to see the Transperfects and BigWords trying to gobble them up? Is size already everything in this industry? ›››

47. Jason Eaton on Starbucks in Russia
In response to your notation about the first Starbucks in Russia as of June 2005: As of October 1, 1999 Starbucks had 9 stores in China, per its 1998-1999 Annual Report; as of June 2005, according to the Seattle Intelligence Post Reporter, there are more than 300 Starbucks in China. Russia will most likely embrace the Starbucks concept, just as China has. ›››

48. ree on Will Google Wallet Force PayPal to Accelerate Global Expansion?
Paypal is anything but great. As a consumer, they froze my account for NO reason at all with my 55 dollars in it. I called them and I got yelled at and slam by the phone. Maybe its because Im only one and you have a company. And I am not the only person who got rip-off by this so called great service of yours. I must urge you to rethink the word "great service". I cannot wait for google to squash this crap of a company. ›››
